The Region 5 Leadership Team is pleased to announce that Mr. David Pietzman has been named the new principal for Greenbriar East Elementary School.

Mr. Pietzman has served as the acting principal at Greenbriar East since March 2, 2020 following the recent retirement of Principal Cohen. Prior to his current acting principal position, Mr. Pietzman was an assistant principal at Greenbriar East Elementary School from July 2019 to present.  Prior to that, Mr. Pietzman was the assistant principal at Mosby Woods Elementary School from 2014-2019.  During this time, he also served as an Extended School Year (ESY) principal in the summer of 2016.  From August 2010-2014, Mr. Pietzman was a mathematics specialist, and a 5^th and 6^th grade teacher at Lane Elementary School.  He previously taught 8^th grade mathematics during the summer of 2010 at Winston Education Campus, District of Columbia Public Schools, and served as a 5^th grade teacher from August 2006-June 2010 at Southwest Middle School in Searcy, Arkansas.

Mr. Pietzman has proven to be a talented and effective instructional leader while serving in a variety of positions with FCPS since 2010.  As the lead administrator for Greenbriar East’s School Innovation and Improvement Plan, Mr. Pietzman has ensured that all goals, strategies, and actions are aligned with the division’s theory of action.  He has worked closely with all stakeholders to build strong tier 1 instruction, effective collaborative teams, and a welcoming and culturally responsive environment. Mr. Pietzman is a lifelong learner with a true growth mindset.  He frequently delivers, and participates in, job-embedded, professional development opportunities to ensure he and his staff are aligned with current instructional best practices. During his administrative tenure at Mosby Woods, Mr. Pietzman led the FCPS Capstone Pilot implementation program, and developed over 1,000 student portfolios to document Portrait of a Graduate attribute growth.  Mr. Pietzman has the reputation of building positive and collaborative partnerships with his staff, colleagues, students, and parents.  He has had a noticeable and positive impact during his brief tenure as Greenbriar East’s acting principal.   

Mr. Pietzman holds a Bachelor of Arts in Middle Level Education from Harding University, a Master of Education in Advanced Studies in Teaching and Learning from Harding University, a National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Endorsement, and an Administration and Supervision Endorsement from the University of Virginia.
